Solvingpowerproblems
Powerproblemscanbedifficulttosolve.Forexample,ashortcircuitcanexistanywhereonanyofthe
powerdistributionbuses.Usually,ashortcircuitwillcausethepowersubsystemtoshutdownbecauseof
anovercurrentcondition.Todiagnoseapowerproblem,usethefollowinggeneralprocedure:
Step1.Turnofftheserveranddisconnectallpowercords.
Step2.Checkforloosecablesinthepowersubsystem.Besides,checkforshortcircuits,forexample,ifa
loosescrewiscausingashortcircuitonacircuitboard.
Step3.TurnontheserverandcheckthelitLEDsonthesystemboard.See“System-boardLEDs”
onpage24.
Step4.Turnofftheserveranddisconnectallpowercords.
Step5.Removetheadaptersanddisconnectthecablesandpowercordstoallinternalandexternal
devicesuntiltheserverisattheminimumconfigurationthatisrequiredfortheservertostart.See

Step6.Reconnectallacpowercordsandturnontheserver.Iftheserverstartssuccessfully,turnoffthe
server,reseattheadapters,andthenturnontheserver.Repeattheoperationtoreseatother
devicesoneatatimeuntiltheproblemisisolated.
