CAUTION: Do not use electric
starter for more than 10 seconds.
A rest period should be observed
between the cranking cycles to
let electric starter cool down. Us-
ing electric starter when engine
has started could damage electric
starter mechanism.
NOTE: If for any reason, the engine
cannot be cra nked electrically, s tart
engine manually using the rewind
starter.
Carburetor Engine
Starting Procedure
Procedure
R echeck th rottle cont rol lever op er-
ation.
Ensure that the tether cord cap
(DESS key) is in position and t hat
thecordattachedtoyourclothing
eyelet.
Ensure that the engine cutout
switch is in th e ON position.
Activate the choke according to the
temperature as explained below.
Choke Application
Initial C old Starting When
Temperature is Below - 10°C (+ 15°F)
NOTE: Do not operate the throttle
lever with the choke lever on.
Set the choke lever to position 3.
NOTE: After the engine is started,
let engine warm up at fast idle until
engine speed drops. Then, close off
choke to ensure proper air-fuel mix-
ture.

Initial Cold Starting When
Temperature is Above - 10°C
(above + 15°F)
Set the choke lever to position 2.
NOTE: After the engine is started,
close off choke to ensure proper
air-fuel mixture.
Warm Engine Starting
Start the engine without any choke.
If the engine will not start after two
pulls of the rope or two 5 second at-
tempts with the electric starter move
choke lever to position 2. Start the
engine witho ut activ ating the throttle
lever. As soon as the engine starts
move the choke lever to OFF.

Manual Starting
Grab rewind starter handle, pull
handle slowly until a resistance is
felt, then hold handle firmly and pull
vigorously to start engine.
Electric Starting (if so equipped)
WARNING
Never depress throttle while start-
ing engine.
