BOOM EXTENSION (JIB)
Installing the Boom Extension
Location numbers in the following procedure are identified by
red circled numbers in Figure 5-4.
1. Completely retract the boom sections and lower the
boom to its horizontal position.
2. Pin the boom head in the 0° position. See Figure 5-5 and
Changing the Boom Head Position (without Boom
Extension) on page 5-7.
3. Remove the pin from the boom extension anchor
bracket at location No. 1.
4. If necessary, pin the deflector sheave (location No. 2) in
the working position.
5. Pull the two pins at location No. 3.
6. Swing the boom extension about the pivot point at
location No. 4.
7. Align and engage the boom extension with the mounting
holes at location No. 5 on the boom head. Install the two
pins.
NOTE: It may be necessary to extend the boom slightly to
align the holes on the boom head with the pin hole
on the boom extension to install the pin.
8. Remove the pins at locations No. 6 and 7.
9. Swing the boom extension (location No. 8) away from
the boom and reinstall the pin removed from location No.
6.
10. Continue swinging the boom extension around to the
front of the boom head until the two pins can be installed
and secured at location No. 9.
11. Remove the hook block from the hoist wire rope.
12. Remove the hoist wire rope and the socket and wedge
from the boom head sheaves.
13. Remove three rope retention pins (8, View A) from boom
extension sheaves.
14. Pay out the hoist wire rope and route it over the boom
extension sheaves.
15. Reinstall the three rope retention pins (8, View A).
16. Disconnect the anti-two-block electric cable (5, View B)
from the plug (6) on the boom head.
17. Connect the electric cable (4, View A) to the plug (6,
View B).
18. Attach the downhaul weight to the hoist wire rope.
Stowing the Boom Extension
Unless otherwise specified, refer to Figure 5-4 for the
following procedure.
1. Lower the boom to its horizontal position. Fully retract
the boom sections.
2. Pin the boom head in the 0° position (see Figure 5-5).
3. Remove the downhaul weight from the hoist wire rope.
4. Disconnect the electric cable (4, View A) from the plug
(6, View B).
5. Connect the electric cable (5, View B) to the plug (6) on
the boom head.
6. Remove the three rope retention pins (8, View A) from
boom extension sheaves.
7. Haul in the hoist wire rope and disengage it from the
boom extension sheaves.
8. Reinstall the three rope retention pins (8, View A) on the
boom extension sheaves.
9. Install the hoist wire rope and the socket and wedge at
the boom head sheaves.
10. Remove the two pins at location No. 9 and at location
No. 6.
11. Swing the boom extension toward the stowed position
until the pin removed at location No. 6 can be installed
into brackets on the boom extension and the boom
assembly at location No. 4. Install and secure the pin.
12. Install the two pins removed at location No. 9 in the
boom extension lugs at location No. 7.
13. Remove the two pins at location No. 5 and at location
10.
14. Swing the boom extension into position so the pin
removed at location No. 10 can be installed in the boom
extension anchor bracket at location No. 1. Install and
secure the pin.
15. Install the two pins removed at location No. 5 in the
boom extension lugs at location No. 3.
16. Reeve the boom head (see Figure 5-10).
17. Install the hook block.
