screen. If the entire medLMTS™ Setup Screen is to be aborted, press NO to return to the Pre-
Prescription screen.
5. NEXT? If any field is not satisfactory, use the arrow keys to locate the field to be changed,
enter the changes, press the YES/ENTER key to accept the new values and then go back to the
NEXT? eld. When all elds are satised with correct settings, press the YES/ENTER key to exit
this screen, and move on to the next PCA Programming Menu.
At the following screen, the patient’s prescription information is entered to complete the
programming of the pump for a PCA Therapy. Remember that there may be additional limits to
rates and doses based on limits for the route of administration selected. (See Figure 5.1.)
Note that the screen identifier gives the abbreviation “PCA” for Patient Controlled Analgesic
Therapy (or EPI if Epidural route is selected) and has a down arrow configuration, which indicates
that there are more than four fields of text or information to be considered.
PCA Prescription Menu
Note: The PCA therapy can be programmed for Basal Rate (continuous infusion) only, for
Patient Bolus (patient demand dose) only, or for both. At least one of these settings must be
entered, though, before this menu can be accepted at the “DONE?” prompt.
1. BAG Vol (IV Bag Volume): Using the numeric keys, enter the amount of fluid in the IV Bag
or Medication Reservoir (include the overll volume).
Note: The volume used for priming via the pump is deducted from the Bag Volume. Therefore,
Bag Volume should be equal to or greater than the amount to be infused to start the infusion.
When the correct amount has been entered, press the YES/ENTER key to accept this eld and
move on to the next. e range for this eld is 1 to 9999.
2. BASL RATE (Basal Rate): The Moog Curlin Infusion pump in PCA Therapy can be set for a
continuous basal infusion (see Figure 5.1). Use the numeric keys to enter the prescribed rate (the
units chosen in the Pre-Prescription Menu will appear here).
Note: If the rate falls out of the range of the pump (depending on the administration route
selected), a beep will sound, and one of the following alert messages will appear:
