ECMthroughtheESTinterface.TheEST ,throughthepublic
CAN,isabletoretrieveDiagnosticTroubleCodes(DTCs),run
diagnostictests,andviewParameterIdentiers(PIDs)fromall
inputsandoutputsoftheECM.

Theenginecontrolsystemcalibratesvehiclespeed.Anynew
speedcalibrationinformationmustbeprogrammedwithanEST.
ThetachometersignalisgeneratedbytheECMbycomputing
signalsfortheCamshaftposition(CMP)sensorandCrankshaft
Position(CKP)sensor.
EngineCrankInhibit(ECI)
ECIpreventsstarterengagementwhentheengineisrunningor
whenthetransmissionisingear.
EngineWarningProtectionSystem(EWPS)
EWPSisdesignedtoprotecttheenginefromdamage
bymonitoringcriticalenginedatasuchasenginespeed,
temperature,oilpressureandcoolantlevels.Thisfeaturewill
alerttheoperatorbyusingacombinationofvisualandaudible
warningswhencriticalengineparametershavebeenexceeded.

EventLoggingSystem
Theeventloggingsystem,knownasTripReporting,records
engineoperationabovemaximumrpm(overspeed),high
coolanttemperature,orlowoilpressure.Thereadingsforthe
odometerandhourmeterarestoredintheECMmemoryatthe
timeofaneventandcanberetrievedusingtheEST.
