PrimingtheFuelSystem
GOVERNMENTREGULATION:Engineuids
(oil,fuel,andcoolant)maybeahazardtohuman
healthandtheenvironment.Handlealluidsand
othercontaminatedmaterials(e.g.lters,rags)in
accordancewithapplicableregulations.Recycle
ordisposeofengineuids,lters,andother
contaminatedmaterialsaccordingtoapplicable
regulations.
WARNING:Topreventpersonalinjuryordeath,shift
transmissiontoparkorneutral,setparkingbrake,andblock
wheelsbeforedoingdiagnosticorserviceprocedures.
WARNING:Topreventpersonalinjuryordeath,donot
smokeandkeepfuelawayfromopenamesandsparks.
CAUTION:Topreventenginedamage,donotaddfueltothe
fuellterheader.Thiscancontaminatethefuel.
1.Setparkingbrakeandshifttransmissiontoparkor
neutral.
2.Verifywaterdrainvalveonprimaryfuellterhousingis
closedandfuelltercapsareontight.
3.Therearetwowaystoprimethefuelsystem;useonly
oneofthefollowingtwoways.
PRIMINGTHEFUELSYSTEMAFTERSERVICINGTHE
FUELFILTERS
1.Primetheengineaftertheprimaryandsecondaryfuellters
havebeenservicedasfollows:
a.Key-Onfor10seconds
b.Key-Offfor15seconds
c.Key-Onfor10seconds
d.Key-Offfor15seconds
e.Key-Onfor10seconds
2.Checkforfuelleakspriortostartingengine.Ifleaksare
foundcorrecttheproblem.
3.Starttheengineandcheckforleaks.Forfurtherinformation
seeStartingtheEngine(page51).
4.Ifleaksarefound,shutdowntheengineandcorrectthe
problem.
5.Ifenginedoesnotstart,seetheEngineDiagnosticManual.
