AFTERTREATMENTSYSTEM
Theengineandvehicleexhaustpipingincludesan
AftertreatmentSystemtocapturesootandotherparticulates
beforetheyexittheexhaustpipe.Thesootiscapturedbythe
DieselParticulateFilter(DPF)andisperiodicallyconvertedto
carbondioxide(CO
2
)byaRegeneration(Regen)process.
TheRegenprocessmaytakeplaceduringvehicleoperation
(ActiveRegen).TheActiveRegenprocesswillbetriggeredby
eitheratime-basedsootorasootmassbuildup-basedstrategy.
AParkedRegenprocessisrequiredwhensufcientthermal
energyhasnotbeenpresenttoinitiatetheprocessforDiesel
OxidationCatalyst(DOC)lightoff.Thevehicleisrequiredtobe
parked(stationary).
AParkedRegenerationwillberequestediftheRegeneration
cannotbecompletedduringdriving.
Inthiscase,adash-mountedlampwillbelittoalertthedriver
toperformaParkedRegeneration.
ThedrivermustparkthevehicleandthenperformtheRegen
asrequired.
FollowtheParkedRegenerationprocesslistedintheVehicle
OperatorManual.
IftheParkedRegenerationprocessisignored,theengine
maystoprunning.

ADOCoperatestooxidizetheinjectedfueltoincreasethe
exhaustgastemperatureasneededforDPFRegen.
ENGINEIDLESHUTDOWNTIMER(U.S.
FEDERAL-OPTIONAL[2010AND2011VEHICLES])
GOVERNMENTREGULATION:Stateandlocal
regulationsmaylimitengineidletime.Thevehicle
owneroroperatorisresponsibleforcompliancewith
theseregulations.
TheoptionalIdleShutdownTimer(IST)allowstheEngine
ControlModule(ECM)toshutdowntheengineduringextended
idle.Idletimecanbeprogrammedfrom2to120minutes.The
ECMcanbeprogrammedtodeactivatetheISTwhenthePTO
isactive.
Thirtysecondsbeforeengineshutdown,theIDLESHUTDOWN
indicatorilluminates.Thiscontinuesuntiltheengineshutsdown
orthelowidleshutdowntimerisreset.Theenginemustbeoutof
gearfortheISTtowork.Engineshutdowntimerwilldeactivate
foroneormoreofthefollowingconditions:
