Biodieselfuelsaremethylorethylestersderivedfromabroad
varietyofrenewablesourcessuchasvegetableoils,animalfats,
andwastecookingoils.Theseoxygenatedorganiccompounds
havekeypropertiesthatarecomparabletothoseindieselfuel.
ACCEPTABLEFUELBLENDS
•Ultralowsulfurkerosene(No.1-DS15dieselfuel)blended
withNo.2-DS15fueltoimprovecoldweatherperformance.
Blendratewoulddependuponregionallowtemperatures.
•LowerbiodieselblendsuptoB5(ablendof5%neat
biodieselwith95%dieselfuel).
Suchblendshavecharacteristicsindistinguishablefrom
dieselfuel,ifthetwocomponentsmeettherequirementsof
theirrespectivestandards:ASTMD6751currentrevision,
forneatbiodieselandASTMD975currentrevision,forultra
lowsulfurdieselfuel.
AsofOctober1,2008,blendsofupto5%biodieselare
includedinthedieselfuelStandardASTMD975-08a
(D975-08adesignatesthe2008revisionofthestandard).
Navistar,Inc.approvesofblendsuptoB5,providedthatthe
twocomponentssatisfycurrentstandardspecications.Quality
biodieselblendsuptoB5shouldnotcauseengineorfuelsystem
problems.
USEOFHIGHERBIODIESELFUELBLENDS(B6TOB20)
StandardASTMD7467(currentrevision)coversthe
specicationsforblendsbetween6%and20%(B6toB20).
Theseblendsmaybeusedinvehiclesthatoperateinpopulated
areasorineetswhichrequireuseofalternativefuelstoreduce
urbanpollution.
UseofB6toB20blendsisatthediscretionofthecustomer
/operatorandwillnotautomaticallyvoidanenginewarranty.
However,ifenginecomponentfailurecanbedirectlyattributable
touseofaB6toB20blendnotprovidedbyaBQ9000certied
fuelsupplierornotmeetingtheASTMD7467(currentrevision)
Standard,Navistarmaydenywarrantyontheaffectedengineor
enginecomponent.
Navistar,Inc.recommendsthatusersofB20selectaBQ9000
certiedfuelsupplierandrequestprooffromthesupplierthe
fuelmeetsASTMD7467(currentrevision)Standard.Fuels
notmeetingthespecicationmaycausefuelsystemdeposits,
pluggedlters,contaminatedengineoil,andfueldegradation.
Ifprovidersandcustomersfollowcorrectstorageand
maintenanceproceduresforfuelandequipment,blendsofB6to
B20thatmeetASTMD7467(currentrevision)Standardshould
performsatisfactorilyindieselengines.Contactyourdealer
forrecommendationsforcorrectstorageandmaintenance
procedures.
