COLDAMBIENTPROTECTION(CAP)
CAPsafeguardstheenginefromdamagecausedbyprolonged
idleatnoloadduringcoldweather.Thisfeatureshouldonlybe
disabledforspecializedapplications.Enginedamagemayoccur
ifCAPisdisabled.
CAPmaintainsenginecoolanttemperaturebyincreasingengine
rpmtoaprogrammedvaluewhenambientairtemperatureis
below32°F(0°C),coolanttemperatureisbelow167°F(75°C),
andenginehasbeenidlingatnoloadforoverveminutes.
Theenginespeedcontinuestoincreaseordecreasetomaintain
acoolanttemperatureof194°F(90°C)untilthefollowingoccurs:
•Engineloadisgreaterthan45%.
•Brakepedalisappliedorbrakeswitchfaultisdetected.
•Clutchpedalispressedorclutchpedalswitchfaultis
detected(manualtransmissions,ifequippedwithaclutch
switch).
•Shiftselectorismovedfromneutral(automatic
transmissions).ShiftselectormustbeinneutralforCAP
towork.
•PowerT akeoff(PTO)switch,alsousedforelectronichand
throttle,isturnedonandactivelycontrolsenginespeed.
•AcceleratorpedalispressedorAcceleratorPedalPosition
(APP)faultisdetected.
•ISTisenabled(2010and2011vehiclesonly).
•EngineCoolantTemperature(ECT)sensorfaultisdetected.
•IntakeAirT emperature(IAT)ambienttemperaturesensor
faultisdetected.
