INSTALLATION ORBAN Model 8400
To cross subnets, you must specify a gateway. If the PC and 8400 are on the
same subnet, then it is unnecessary to specify a gateway.
The ports used for 8400 are 16540 (UDP) and 51200 (TCP). If you are be-
hind a firewall, port number 16540 needs to be opened in order to receive
8400 PC Remote metering data.
If the gateway and firewall (if used) are configured correctly, it is possible to
connect 8400 PC Remote to an 8400 via a VPN.
a)
Toggle the Locate button to select Gateway and the Set Gateway button.
The Gateway should indicate 0.0.0.0.
b)
Press the Enter button to access the Set Gateway Address screen.
c) Use the Locate button to toggle to the first number and press the Enter button;
repeat until you have selected all the numbers in the Gateway. When the
Gateway entry is complete, toggle to
Save and press the Enter button.
D) Connect your network’s Ethernet cable to the card.
This completes setup of network parameters.
4. Edit "8400.ini" as necessary.
When connecting the PC Remote application to the 8400 via an Ethernet net-
work, you must enter the IP address assigned by your network administrator
into the 8400.ini file. The 8400.ini file is normally installed on your PC
in the following locations:
A shortcut to 8400.ini in your Start Menu: Start / Programs / Orban /
Optimod 8400; then select 8400.ini
OR
The actual file location of 8400.ini on your local PC drive:
c:\Program Files\Orban\Optimod 8400\
When connecting the PC Remote application to the 8400 via an Ethernet net-
work, type the following into the 8400.ini file, using a text editor like
Notepad:
The IP address that you entered in step (3.A) above, followed by a carriage
return.
For example:
###.###.###.###
[carriage return]
Do not enter the words “carriage return”; instead,
add a carriage return by pressing the
Enter key on your computer’s keyboard.
