Hidden Diagnostics Menu
The Hidden Diagnostics Menu consists of operational checks and
calibrations made at the operator control panel. These checks are for the use
of authorized factory and field service personnel only.
Accessing the Hidden Diagnostics Menu
To access this menu, the printer must be on and loaded with paper. Follow
these steps:
1. Press on LINE to place the printer offline.
2. Open the printer cover.
NOTE: The buttonpressing sequences in the next step must be done within
one second of each other to unlock the hidden menu.
3. Press UP and DOWN simultaneously, then immediately press NEXT
and PREV simultaneously. The display shows Hidden/Burn In.
4. Refer to the Hidden Diagnostics Menu diagram (page 334). The
diagram shows the menu structure and summarizes the switch sequences
used to select the various tests.
Hidden Diagnostics Menu options
BurnIn A special test pattern that exercises the hammer bank to a high
degree. Burnin tests will not overheat the printer, but they do stress the
equipment. Use these tests sparingly and carefully. You can run the burnin
pattern three ways:
Plot the test pattern for 7 (± 1) seconds, rest for 7 (± 1) seconds,
repeated continuously. This duty cycle tests the shuttle.
Plot the test pattern for 20 (± 3) minutes, idle for 20 (± 3) minutes.
This test thermally cycles various parts of the printer.
Always On is continuous plotting. This test provides a general
burnin of the printer.
Error Print Prints a list of the 20 most recent errors. The error log printout
includes the part number and version level of all modules in the system at the
