2 Safety and operation instructions
2.1 General
In this user manual, you will find all the information you need to use the ImpressionIST® 4+ successfully.
Basic knowledge of operating a PC with Windows operating system and an iPad is assumed.
Please familiarize yourself with the contents before commissioning and also observe the device information for
the devices used in conjunction with the ImpressionIST® 4+. Optometric knowledge is assumed when working
with the ImpressionIST® 4+. The exact observation and assessment of the customer is the responsibility of the
optician.
To facilitate your orientation within the user manual, the following symbols are used:
• General notes
• Notes; indicate hazards that can cause material damage or impair the measurement quality.
• If you follow the tips, you can greatly simplify your work with the device.
• This paragraph clarifies related steps and provides an overview.
All menu items visible on the screen are highlighted by "quotes and italics".
Keyboard commands are shown in bold and in square brackets: e.g. [Tab].
Therefore, please pay attention to the following safety instructions. They serve your protection as well as the
safety of your customers and protect the system and you from possible damage. The operating instructions
enclosed with your ImpressionIST® 4+ also contain further important information.
In general:
− The device may only be operated by appropriately instructed or trained persons.
− Any use of the device other than that specified is the sole responsibility of the user.
− Observe the relevant national accident prevention regulations.
− Do not touch any optical components. This can adversely affect the measurement accuracy.
− Do not attempt to modify or disassemble the ImpressionIST® 4+. The device does not contain any user-
serviceable parts.
− All repair and maintenance work may only be carried out by trained staff of the Rodenstock Customer
Service System. Modifications or repairs to the device are reserved for trained service technicians
employed by or authorized by the manufacturer only.
− Rodenstock GmbH is not liable for damage caused by unauthorized intervention in the device, the
installation of third-party software or the use of unauthorized accessories. Such actions will void all
warranty claims.
2.2 Software
− Software that affects the functionality of the ImpressionIST® software or any of the components it uses
must not be installed.
− Changes to the operating system configuration that affect the ImpressionIST® software or any of the
components it uses must not be made.
