MOUNTING AND CONNECTIONS
This subsection provides details about the physical mounting and connection requirements for
the SEL-321 Relay.
Mounting
The relay is designed to be permanently mounted in a dry, indoor location. The relay may be
mounted either horizontally or vertically by its front flanges in a 19-inch relay rack. It may also
be mounted semi-flush in a switchboard panel. Use four #10 screws for mounting. See Figure
6.2 through Figure 6.14 for front and rear panel drawings, mounting dimensions, and drilling
details.
Rear-Panel Plug-In Connectors Option (Figure 6.10 through Figure 6.12)
Note: Important: Improvements in Connectorized
®
SEL-321 Relays (plug-in connectors)
result in part number changes.
The current transformer shorting connector (for current channel inputs IA, IB, and IC)
has been made more robust. This improvement makes the new connector design
incompatible with the old design. Thus, presently constructed connectorized SEL-321
Relays with this improved connector have a new part number (partial part numbers
shown):
Old New
321xK 321xZ
321xJ 321xY
The respective wiring harness part numbers for these old and new connectorized
SEL-321 Relays are (partial part numbers shown):
Old New
W0321xK WA0321xZ
W0321xJ WA0321xY
The other connectors on the connectorized SEL-321 Relay rear panel (power input,
voltage inputs, output contacts, etc.) are the same for the old or new models. Only the
current transformer shorting connector has changed.
Figure 6.10, Figure 6.11, and Figure 6.12 show the rear panels for new models 321xZ
and 321xY. These figures can also be used as a reference for old models 321xK and
321xJ, respectively. All terminal labeling/numbering remains the same.
Connector terminals 201-340 accept wire size AWG 24 to 12 (install wires with a small slotted-
tip screwdriver).
