You can see the status of the PC stations in "Simatic Shell". You can see icons on the name
of the PC stations in Simatic Shell.
The following table shows the meaning of icons:
Status Meaning of the icons PC stations shown in Simatic Shell
The PC station communicates
only through encrypted con‐
nections.
PC stations for which encrypted communication is ena‐
bled with the same pre-shared key (PSK).
If the encrypted communication is enabled on a PC sta‐
tion, this PC station can only establish communication
connections to PC stations on which the same PSK is
configured.
Note: Environments with separate pre-shared keys can
be specified within a network.
The PC station communicates
through encrypted and unen‐
crypted connections (migra‐
tion mode).
PC stations for which the unencrypted connection is ena‐
bled or the encrypted communication with the same pre-
shared key.
If communication is required through both encrypted and
unencrypted connections for a PC station, you can enable
migration mode.
Note: Only use migration mode as a temporary solution.
Recommended objective for the plant: encrypted commu‐
nication between all PC stations of the plant.

Changing settings for encrypted communication (situations)
If you change settings for encrypted communication, you must always perform the changes
for all PC stations in the entire plant.
