3.8.3 Access to PCS 7 data using OpenPCS 7
Accessing PCS 7 data with OPC and OLE/DB
Data from a PCS 7 plant can be made available to third-party systems using OLE DB or OPC
via a PC station with OpenPCS 7, a so-called Open PCS 7 station.
You can use OpenPCS 7 at the following levels:
Automation level
Plant control and production control levels
MES level (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
ERP level (Enterprise Resource Planning)
Interface formats
The client applications access data on the OpenPCS 7 station via interfaces.
OpenPCS 7 uses the following interface formats for data communication:
OPC UA (Unified Architecture)
OPC DA (Data Access)
OPC A&E (Alarm and Event and Historical Alarm and Event)
OPC HDA (Historical Data Access)
OLE/DB (integration of data in applications that support OLE (for example, MS Office))

With PCS 7, the AS, OS, BATCH, Route Control and ES communicate via a bus system, based
on an industrial Ethernet.
