3.5 Solutions for engineering stations
3.5.1 PCS 7 project engineering with multiple engineering stations
Distributed engineering
You can distribute the engineering tasks for a PCS 7 plant over multiple engineering stations
(Distributed Engineering). PCS 7 provides the following options for this:
Option Application
Configuring in a multi‐
project
You can use multiproject engineering to allow several project teams to work
on complex projects at the same time.
The engineering stations can be connected over a network or they can be
located in separate areas.
Branching and merg‐
ing charts from a
project
You can branch and merge the projects at the chart level (S7 program) to
allow several engineers to work at the same time.
Configuring over a net‐
work
Several engineers can work on specific parts of a project (for example, AS,
OS) stored on a central engineering server at the same time, working from
their networked engineering stations.
