Non-Ex version:
replacement of quartz nozzle
Remove photomultiplier as described above
Unscrew the column connector from the oven
chamber
Pull the quartz nozzle of the oven chamber out of
the graphite gasket
Burn out a new quartz nozzle in a flame
Insert the quartz nozzle into the graphite gasket and
adjust such that the tip of the nozzle ends 1 20mm
below the annular gap.
Screw the column connector tight. Make sure that
the nozzle is no longer moved
Adjust the ignition electrode
Fit the heat sink and photomultiplier as described
above
Start up the detector. Check the dark current, basic
current and sensitivity. If the dark current is correct
but the basic current is too high, the nozzle is in-
serted too high and glows.
Non-Ex version:
replacement of heater cartridge
and temperature sensor
The heater cartridge and temperature sensor are
plugged into an aluminium heating plate. In order to
replace them, the detector must first be removed from
the chromatograph.
Switch off the chromatograph and permit the detec-
tor to cool down
Remove the column and the column connector from
the oven chamber
Remove the detector with carrier plate from the
chromatograph
Remove the two screws used to secure the heating
plate to the module. Remove the heater plate
Pull the heater cartridge or temperature sensor from
the heating plate. If the parts are tight, punch them
out using a 6 mm or 3 mm diam. punch. If the FPD
has always been operated at high temperatures, the
heater cartridge may be fused to the heating plate.
In this case the complete heating plate must be re-
placed
Spray the new heater cartridge with graphite spray
as lubrication, and insert
Insert a fiber-glass hose as additional insulation
over the connection wires up to the plate, and screw
tight with the cable group.
