7.2 Primary Setup Tool
The Primary Setup Tool (PST) is used to assign an IP address to an unconfigured fiber switch. If a
fiber switch is already initially configured with an IP address, then the Primary Setup tool is not
needed.
7.2.1 Installation
For the installation instructions, refer to the Siemens SIMATIC NET/Industrial
Ethernet/PROFINET/Primary Setup Tool/Configuration Manual, P/N C79000-G8976-C204-07,
which is provided with the Scalance switch.
7.2.2 Configuring IP Address
• From the Local Area Connection Properties dialog window, select Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) and click Properties.
• Choose Use the following IP address and pick an address in the same network as the
fiber switch.
• Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

7.2.3 Assigning IP Address
• Make sure the Fiber Optic Switch is powered on and connected to the laptop/PC via
Ethernet.
• Launch the Primary Setup Tool by clicking the Primary Setup Tool icon from the
desktop.
• From the PST, click Network > Browse.
