3.2 Using the 3WA circuit breaker for motor protection
3WA circuit breakers are suitable for use as a motor protection circuit breakers for IE3
and IE4 motors. The technical specifications of the 3WA circuit breakers and the setting
options of the ETU600 electronic trip unit enable use in accordance with IEC EN 60947-
4-1.
The graphic below gives an overview of the possible uses of the 3WA circuit breaker for
the protection of electric motors.
Note
The 3WA circuit breaker can be used for implementing overload and short
-circuit
protection as well as for operational switching (ON/OFF) of
the electric motor. However,
as operational switching of the motor according to utilization category AC
-3 reduces the
electrical endurance of the circuit breaker, this use is only suitable for applications with
a low switching frequency.
