When planning the communication system, please observe the following interrelationships
between the synchronism of the communication and your specific application:
● Isochronous data transfer
With the PROFINET IRT (Isochronous Real Time) communication profile, PROFINET
provides a mechanism for isochronous data transfer. Details are provided in Chapter "RT
classes for PROFINET IO (Page 124)".
● Synchronous applications
– An isochronous application involves an application where it is necessary to have a
precise correlation of the process data with respect to time (process data image that is
consistent over time). Process data are transferred with a synchronized
communication.
– You must synchronize the application to the communication cycle so that the bus and
the application can interact with one another. This means that you can directly
correlate all process data of a communication cycle with respect to time.
