Radiation exposure to personnel
During the procedure the physician is in the scan room
and close to the exposed scan plane.
• Take special care to avoid excessive and unnecessary
radiation exposure.
Protection against primary x-ray exposure:
• In the worst case, any body parts in the scan plane
may receive approximately the accumulated dose as
shown on the CTDI display.
• Avoid being directly exposed to the x-ray beam.
Protection against stray radiation:
• The x-ray beam is limited to the imaged scan vol-
ume, but a significant portion of the x-rays is scat-
tered and distributed in the scan room (stray radia-
tion).
• Wear protective clothing to reduce exposure.
• A table with measured data of this stray radiation is
included in the chapter on Safety in your SOMATOM
Operator Manual.
