5 Belt Replacement
54" Mower Belt Replacement

54" Mower Drive Belt Replacement
1. Remove the mower deck, (see Section 6, COMMON
SERVICE PROCEDURES).
Note: Early models use clips to secure the belt covers
and later models use capscrews.
EARLY MODELS:
2. Release the belt cover latches (A, Figure 6) and
remove the belt covers.
LATER MODELS:
2. Remove the capscrews securing the belt covers and
then remove the belt covers.
ALL MODELS:
3. Using a spring puller or a small rope loop, release the
idler assembly tension spring (A, Figure 8).
4. Remove the old drive belt.
5. Inspect all pulleys for wear or bearing damage.
6. Lubricate the idler arm pivot with multi-purpose lithium
grease and check for free movement.
7. Install the new drive belt as shown in the diagram in
Figure 7.
8. Complete installation by following steps 3-1 in
reverse order. When reinstalling the belt covers, be
sure the alignment notches (B, Figure 6) are centered
on the latches (A).
