6 Quick start
This section describes how to start development quickly using the STM32U5A9J-DK Discovery kit.
Before installing and using the product, accept the Evaluation Product License Agreement from the www.st.com/
epla webpage.
The Discovery kit is a low-cost and easy-to-use development kit to quickly evaluate and start development with an
STM32 microcontroller in TFBGA216 package. To start using this kit, follow the steps below:
1. For correct identification of all device interfaces from the host PC, install the Discovery USB driver available
on the STM32U5A9J-DK webpage, before connecting the board.
2. Check that jumpers JP1, JP2, JP3 and JP5 are ON, and check JP4 is set on STLK, SW1 white side switch
is set to 0.
3. Connect a Type-A to Micro-B USB cable (not included) from the STM32U5A9J-DK Discovery board (CN5)
to a PC to power the board. The LD2 (5V) and LD6 (COM) LEDs light up.
4. The LCD module displays a menu with icons, indicating the demonstration application software startup.
5. The demo application software and its user manual, as well as other software examples for exploring
STM32U5 features are available at STM32U5A9J-DK.
6. Develop an application using the available examples.
STLINK-V3E firmware upgrade:
STLINK-V3E embeds a firmware upgrade mechanism for an in-situ upgrade through the USB port. As the
firmware might evolve during the lifetime of the STLINK-V3E product, with new functionalities, bug fixes, support
for new microcontroller families, it is recommended to visit the www.st.com website, before starting to use the
STM32U5A9J-DK Discovery kit and periodically, to stay up-to-date with the latest firmware version.
