7. Shortblock
7.1 Muffler/ spark arresting
screen
Check and if necessary repair the
fuel supply, carburetor, air filter and
ignition system before looking for
faults on the engine.
– Troubleshooting, b 4.
– Remove the cast arm with guard,
b 5.2.
: Take out the screws (arrows).
– Take out and examine the
muffler (1), replace if necessary.
: Remove the exhaust gasket (1)
and cooling plate (2).

Spark arresting screen
: Remove screw (1).
– Remove the spark arresting
screen (2).
– Clean the spark arresting
screen (2), replace if necessary.
– Reassemble parts in reverse
order.
: Examine and clean the mating
surfaces (arrows), b 14.

– Place the machine in an upright
position.
: Fit the cooling plate (1) and
gasket (2) – the holes (arrows)
must line up.
– Carefully fit the muffler (1).
: Fit the screws (arrows) and check
that the cooling plate and gasket
are correctly positioned.
– Insert the screws (arrows) and
tighten them down.
– Tightening torques, b 3.5.
