Adding Calibration Compound

Adding Calibration Compound
The calibration compound is a liquid whose mass spectrum of ions is used to tune and
calibrate the TSQ Quantum XLS Series mass spectrometers. The mass spectrometers use
FC-43 as their calibration compound. Although you cannot visually determine when to add a
calibration compound, Xcalibur Automatic Tune produces the error message: “the intensity of
calibration gas ions is too low.” You must add calibration compound; however, many factors
other than a decrease in the calibration compound can cause a shortage of calibration gas ions.
As a rule, add calibration compound once a year.
The calibration compound resides in a cylindrical vial (see Figure 56).

Y To add calibration compound
1. In EZ Tune, place the instrument in standby.
2. Remove the cover to the calibration compound vial compartment. See Figure 57.
