Complete Disassembly and Reassembly of the Ion Source
See Figure 55 for the location of the ion source components.
Y To disassemble the ion source completely
1. Prepare a clean work area by covering the area with lint-free cloth.
2. Shut down and vent the TSQ Quantum XLS Series system. See“Shutting Down the
System Completely” on page 51
.
3. Wearing clean, lint- and powder- free gloves, remove the ion source. See “Removing the
Ion Source” on page 88.
4. Remove the ion source from the magnet yoke.

5. Unscrew the threaded hexagonal standoff and remove the retainer clip that secures the
heater ring and lens assemblies to the ion source block.
6. Pull the heated Q0 quadrupole assembly and the L1, L2, L3 lens assembly off the ion
source.
WARNING Shock Hazard. Unplug the mass spectrometer before proceeding.
