Why are the grade setting and measured grade value not equal on my Topcon Measuring Instruments?

  There are several reasons why the grade setting value of the Topcon TP-L6W Measuring Instrument and the measured grade value might not match: * An incorrect grade value might have been entered. To resolve this, check the input value (‰ or %) and reset it. * The bubble on the bubble tube display of the instrument or the bubble on the target may not have been adjusted correctly. Adjust the laser and/or target so the bubble is centered. * The laser beam could be refracted due to temperature differences within the pipe. When laying the pipe, backfill the trench immediately to help maintain temperature stability. Consider using a blower to move air through the pipe to keep temperature and moisture stable.

  If the laser beam on your Topcon Measuring Instruments is unstable, it could be due to a few reasons: * Temperature differences within the pipe may be causing the laser beam to refract. Backfill the trench immediately after laying the pipe to help maintain temperature stability. * Fog and/or mist may be causing the laser beam to refract and reflect. Use a blower to move air through the pipe to blend the air and remove mist or fog. * To prevent heat build-up inside the pipe, cover it. * Clear any mist or fog that may be present.

Press the [Set/Lock] key on the instrument to release the lock function. * The value entered might be out of the grade range. Grade entry must be in the range of -15 to 40%. * When Level Warning Indicator blinks, the instrument is tilted beyond the self-leveling range. Reposition the instrument until the level warning indicator disappears. * The battery level may be low. Recharge or replace the batteries with new ones.
