(AS DEFINED BY THE U.S. NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND
MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT AND REGULATIONS)
“Chassis-cab” means an incomplete vehicle, with a completed occu-
pant compartment, that requires only the addition of cargo-carrying, work-
performing, or load-bearing components to perform its intended functions.
“Completed vehicle” means a vehicle that requires no further manufac-
turing operations to perform its intended function, other than the addition
of readily attachable components, such as mirrors or tire and rim assem
-
blies, or minor finishing operations such as painting.
“Curb mass” means the mass of a motor vehicle with standard equip-
ment; maximum capacity of engine fuel, oil and coolant; and, if so
equipped, air conditioning and additional mass optional engine.
“Final-stage manufacturer” means a person who performs such manu-
facturing operations on an incomplete vehicle that it becomes a com-
pleted vehicle.
“Gross axle mass rating” or “GAMR” means the value specified by the
vehicle manufacturer as the load-carrying capacity of a single axle sys
-
tem, as measured at the tire-ground interfaces.
“Gross vehicle mass rating” or “GVMR” means the value specified by
the manufacturer as the loaded mass of a single vehicle.
“Incomplete vehicle” means an assemblage consisting, as a minimum,
of frame and chassis structure, power train, steering system, suspension
system, and braking system, to the extent that those systems are to be
part of the completed vehicle, that requires further manufacturing opera
-
tions, other than the addition of readily attachable components, such as
mirrors or tire and rim assemblies, or minor finishing operations such as
painting, to become a completed vehicle.
“Incomplete vehicle manufacturer” means a person who manufacturers
an incomplete vehicle by assembling components none of which, taken
separately, constitute an incomplete vehicle.
“Intermediate manufacturer” means a person, other than the incom-
plete vehicle manufacturer or the final-stage manufacturer, who performs
manufacturing operations on an incomplete vehicle.
