Print recommendations
Each material requires different settings for optimal results. If you use Ultimaker Cura to prepare your model, these
settings are automatically set correctly if the correct print core(s), material(s) and build plate type are selected. Ensure to
use the latest version of Ultimaker Cura for the most up-to-date print profiles.
For all materials that are supported on the Ultimaker S5, you either have to use the glass or aluminum build plate for
adhesion. The overview below shows the recommended build plate per material.
Material Glass build plate (+ glue) Aluminum build plate
PLA Yes, preferred Yes
Tough PLA Yes, preferred Yes
Nylon Yes, preferred No
ABS Not recommended Yes, preferred
CPE Yes Yes, preferred
CPE+ Not recommended Yes, preferred
PC Not recommended Yes, preferred
TPU 95A Yes, preferred Yes
PP Yes (+ adhesion sheet) Yes, preferred
PVA Yes No
Breakaway Ye s Yes
If you are using the glass build plate it is also recommended to apply a thin layer of glue (using the glue stick
from the accessory box) or an adhesion sheet to the glass build plate before starting a print. This will ensure
that your print adheres reliably to the build plate, and also prevents the glass build plate from chipping when
removing materials.
When changing the build plate you also need to change the build plate configuration on the printer (see chapter 5.7
Changing the printer configuration).

manuals on www.ultimaker.com.
