WELDING PRECAUTIONS
Proper welding precautions are necessary to help avoid damage to components such as electronic
modules, controllers, and bearings.
•Turn engine off and remove ignition key.
•Turn Battery Ground Disconnect Switch off.
•Always clean area of any grease, fuel, or oil before welding. Always have a fire extinguisher
available.
•When possible, remove the component that must be welded from the machine or the engine and
then weld the component.
•If welding near an electronic module or controller on the machine or the engine, temporarily
remove the electronic component to prevent heat-related damage. Electronic modules and
controllers can be damaged by stray voltages and currents generated during welding if not
unplugged prior to welding.
•Do not use electrical components (ECM or ECM sensors) or electronic component grounding
points for grounding the welder.
•Clamp the ground cable from the welder to the component to be welded. Place the clamp as close
as possible to the weld. Make sure electrical path from ground cable to component being welded
does not go through any bearing.
•Never allow welding cables to lay on, near, or across from any electrical wiring or electronic
component while welding is in progress.
•Protect any wiring harness and hydraulic hoses from weld spatter.
