LABEL DESCRIPTION
QoS Select t he Enable check box t o t urn on QoS to im prove your network per form ance.
WAN Managed
Upstream
Bandw idt h
Ent er the am ount of upstream bandw idt h for t he WAN interfaces t hat you want t o allocate
using QoS.
The recom m endation is to set t his speed to m at ch the int erfaces’ act ual t ransm ission speed.
For exam ple, set t he WAN int erfaces’ speed to 100000 kbps if your I nternet connect ion has
an upst ream transm ission speed of 100 Mbps.
You can set t his num ber higher t han t he int erfaces’ actual t ransm ission speed. The Dev ice
uses up t o 95% of t he DSL port ’s act ual upstream t ransm ission speed even if you set this
num ber higher t han t he DSL port ’s actual t ransm ission speed.
You can also set this num ber lower than t he int erfaces’ actual transm ission speed. This will
cause the Device to not use som e of the inter faces’ available bandwidth.
I f you leave this field blank, t he Device autom at ically set s this num ber t o be 95% of the
WAN int erfaces’ act ual upst ream transm ission speed.
LAN Managed
Downst ream
Bandw idt h
Ent er the am ount of downstream bandw idt h for the LAN interfaces (including WLAN) that
you want to allocat e using QoS.
The r ecom m endat ion is to set t his speed to m atch the WAN int erfaces’ actual t ransm ission
speed. For exam ple, set t he LAN m anaged downstream bandwidth to 100000 kbps if you
use a 100 Mbps wired Et her net WAN connection.
You can also set this num ber lower than the WAN int erfaces’ act ual t ransm ission speed. This
will cause t he Device t o not use som e of the int erfaces’ available bandwidth.
I f you leave this field blank, the Device aut om atically sets this to t he LAN int erfaces’
m axim um support ed connect ion speed.
Upstream
traffic priority
Assigned by
Select how t he Device assigns priorities t o various upst ream traffic flows.
• N one : Disables auto pr iority m apping and has the Dev ice put packet s into t he queues
accor ding t o your classificat ion rules. Traffic which does not m atch any of t he
classificat ion rules is m apped into t he default queue with the lowest priorit y.
• Et hernet Pr ior it y: Aut om atically assign priorit y based on the I EEE 802.1p priorit y level.
• I P Pr e ce dence: Aut om atically assign priorit y based on the first t hree bits of t he TOS
field in the I P header.
• Pa cket Lengt h: Autom atically assign priorit y based on t he packet size. Smaller packets
get higher priority since control, signaling, VoI P, internet gam ing, or other real- t im e
packets are usually sm all while larger packet s are usually best effort dat a packet s like
file t ransfers.
