10.6.1 Add/Edit a QoS Policer
Click Add ne w Policer in t he Police r Set up screen or t he Edit icon next to a policer to show t he
following screen.

Act ive Select the check box to act ivate this policer.
Nam e Ent er the descript ive name of this policer.
Meter Type This shows the t raffic m etering algorithm used in this policer.
The Sim ple Token Buck e t algor it h m u ses t oken s in a bucket t o cont r ol w hen t raffic can b e
transm it ted. Each token represent s one byt e. The algorit hm allows bur sts of up t o b bytes
which is also t he bucket size.
The Single Ra t e Thr e e Color M a r k e r (srTCM) is based on t he t oken bucket filter and
ident ifies packets by com paring them to the Com m it t ed I nform at ion Rate ( CI R) , t he
Com m it t ed Bur st Size (CBS) and the Excess Burst Size ( EBS) .
The Tw o Ra t e Th r e e Color Mark e r ( trTCM) is based on t he token bucket filter and
identifies packets by com paring them to t he Com m it t ed I nform at ion Rat e (CI R) and t he
Peak I nform ation Rat e ( PI R) .

Specify t he com m it t ed rate. When the incom ing t raffic rate of the m em ber QoS classes is
less than t he com m itted rate, the device applies the confor m ing act ion to t he t raffic.

Burst Size
Specify the com m itted burst size for packet burst s. This m ust be equal t o or less than the
peak burst size (t wo rate three color) or excess burst size ( single rate t hree color) if it is also
configured.
This is t he m axim um size of the ( first ) t oken bucket in a traffic m etering algorithm .

Specify what the Device does for packet s wit hin t he com m itt ed rate and burst size ( gr een-
m arked packets) .
• Pa ss: Send t he packet s without m odificat ion.
• DSCP Mark : Change the DSCP m ark value of t he pack et s. Enter t he DSCP m ark value t o
use.

burst size ( red- m arked packets) .
• Drop: Discar d the packets.
• DSCP Mark : Change the DSCP m ark value of t he pack et s. Enter t he DSCP m ark value t o
use. The packets m ay be dr opped if t here is congest ion on the network.
