Windows Messenger is an exam ple of an application that supports NAT traversal and UPnP.
See the
Chapt er 11 on page 185 for m or e inform at ion on NAT.
Cautions with UPnP
The autom at ed nature of NAT traversal applicat ions in est ablishing t heir own services and opening
firewall port s m ay present net work security issues. Net work inform ation and configurat ion m ay also
be obtained and m odified by users in som e net w ork environm ent s.
When a UPnP device joins a network, it announces its presence wit h a m ulticast m essage. For
securit y reasons, the Device allows m ulticast m essages on the LAN only.
All UPnP- enabled devices m ay com m unicate freely wit h each ot her wit hout addit ional configuration.
Disable UPnP if this is not your int ent ion.
UPnP and ZyXEL
ZyXEL has achieved UPnP certificat ion from the Universal Plug and Play Forum UPnP™
I m plem enters Corp. ( UI C). ZyXEL's UPnP im plem ent at ion supports I nternet Gat eway Device (I GD)
