1.4 Applications for the Device
Here are som e exam ple uses for which the Device is well suited.
1.4.1 Internet Access
Your Device provides shared I nternet access by connecting t he DSL port t o the DSL or MODEM
j ack on a splitt er or your telephone j ack. You can have m ult iple WAN services over one ADSL or
VDSL. The Device cannot work in ADSL and VDSL m ode at the sam e tim e.
Note: The ADSL and VDSL lines share the sam e WAN ( layer- 2) interfaces t hat you
configure in the Device. Refer to
Section 6.2 on page 86 for t he N et w or k Set t ing

Com put ers can connect t o the Device’s LAN port s ( or wirelessly) .

You can also configure I P filtering on the Device for secure I nt ernet access. When the I P filt er is on,
all incom ing t raffic from the I nt ernet to your net work is blocked by default unless it is initiat ed from
your net work. This m eans that probes from the outside t o your networ k are not allowed, but you
can safely browse t he I nternet and download files.
