Routing Table
23.1 Overview
Routing is based on the dest ination address only and the Device takes t he shortest pat h t o forward
a packet.
23.2 The Routing Table Screen
Click System M on it or > Rout ing Table to open t he following screen.

The following t able describes t he labels in t his screen.

LABEL DESCRIPTION
Dest ination This indicates t he destinat ion I P address of t his rout e.
Gateway This indicates t he I P address of t he gateway that helps forward t his route’s traffic.
Subnet Mask This indicates t he dest ination subnet m ask of t his rout e.
Flag This indicates the r oute status.
U- Up: The route is up.
!- Re j ect: The rout e is blocked and will force a route lookup to fail.
G-Gat ew ay: The rout e uses a gat eway t o forward traffic.
H- H ost : The t arget of t he rout e is a host .
R- Reinst at e : The rout e is reinstat ed for dynam ic routing.
D- Dynam ic ( r e dir ect) : The rout e is dy nam ically inst alled by a r outing daem on or redirect .
M- M odified ( redirect ) : The rout e is m odified from a r outing daemon or redirect .
Metric The m etric represents the "cost of transm ission". A router determ ines the best rout e for
t ransm ission by choosing a path wit h the lowest "cost". The sm aller the num ber, t he lower
the " cost".
