ESS
An Extended Service Set (ESS) consists of a series of overlapping BSSs, each cont aining an access
point , wit h each access point connected t oget her by a wired net work. This wired connection
bet ween APs is called a Dist ribut ion System (DS).
This type of wireless LAN t opology is called an I nfrastruct ure WLAN. The Access Point s not only
provide com m unication wit h t he wired network but also m ediat e wireless network traffic in t he
im m ediate neighborhood.
