Table 8 Rou t ing Mode
LABEL DESCRIPTION
General
Act ive Select t his t o act ivate the WAN configuration set t ings.
Nam e Specify a descript ive nam e for t his connect ion.
Type Select w het her it is an ADSL/ VDSL over PTM or ADSL over ATM connection.
Mode Select Routing if your I SP give you one I P address only and you want m ultiple com puters to
share an I nter net account.
Encapsulation Select t he m et hod of encapsulat ion used by your I SP from t he drop-down list box. This
opt ion is available only when you select Routing in the Mode field.
The choices depend on the connection type you selected. I f your connection t ype is ADSL/
VDSL over PTM, the choices ar e PPPoE and I PoE. I f your connection ty pe is ADSL over
ATM , t he choices are PPPoE, PPPoA, I PoE and I PoA.
I Pv6/ I Pv4 Mode Select I Pv4 Only if you want the Device t o run I Pv4 only.
Select I Pv6 / I Pv4 DualSt a ck t o allow t he Device t o run I Pv4 and I Pv 6 at t he sam e t im e.
Select I Pv6 Only if you want t he Device t o run I Pv6 only.
ATM PVC Configuration ( These fields appear when t he Type is set to AD SL over ATM .)
VPI The valid range for t he VPI is 0 to 255. Ent er t he VPI assigned to you.
VCI The valid range for t he VCI is 32 to 65535 (0 to 31 is reser ved for local m anagem ent of ATM
traffic) . Ent er the VCI assigned t o you.
DSL Link Ty pe This field is not editable. The selection depends on t he setting in the Encapsulat ion field.
EoA ( Ethernet over ATM) uses an Ethernet header in the packet , so that you can have
m ult iple services/ connections over one PVC. You can set each connect ion t o have its own
MAC address or all connections share one MAC address but use different VLAN I Ds for
differ ent services. EoA support s ENET ENCAP ( I PoE), PPPoE and RFC1483/ 2684 bridging
encapsulat ion m et hods.
PPPoA ( PPP over ATM) allows j ust one PPPoA connect ion over a PVC.
I PoA (I P over ATM) allows j ust one RFC 1483 rout ing connect ion over a PVC.
Encapsulation
Mode
Select t he m et hod of m ultiplexing used by your I SP from the drop-down list box. Choices
are:
• LLC/ SNAP- BRI DGI N G: I n LCC encapsulation, bridged PDUs are encapsulated by
ident ifying t he t ype of t he bridged m edia in t he SNAP header. This is available only when
you select I PoE or PPPoE in t he Sele ct D SL Lin k Type field.
• VC/ MUX: I n VC m ultiplexing, each prot ocol is carried on a single ATM virt ual circuit
( VC) . To transport m ultiple prot ocols, t he Dev ice needs separat e VCs. There is a bindin g
between a VC and t he t ype of the network protocol carried on the VC. This r educes
payload overhead since there is no need t o car ry protocol inform ation in each Protocol
Data Unit (PDU) payload.
• LLC/ EN CAPSULATI ON: More t han one protocol can be carried over the sam e VC. This
is available only when you select PPPoA in t he Encapsula t ion field.
• LLC/ SNAP- ROUTI NG: I n LCC encapsulat ion, an I EEE 802.2 Logical Link Cont r ol ( LLC)
header is prefixed t o each rout ed PDU to ident ify t he PDUs. The LCC header can be
followed by an I EEE 802.1a SubNet work At tachm ent Point ( SNAP) header. This is
available only when you select I PoA in t he Encapsula t ion field.
