Troubleshooting
WhentroubleshootingaSBUONTunit,considerthefollowingtwoprinciples:
•BecausevoiceanddatasignalsoriginateattheOLTequipment,afailureofallservices
normallyindicatestheproblemisbeforetheSBUONT.AfailureattheOLTequipment
normallyresultsinalossofservicetomultiplecustomers.
•TheOL
Thasdiagnostic
testingproceduresthatcanmonitorthestatusofeverySBUONT
inthesystem,whichveryoftencandirectyoutotherootcauseofthetrouble.
NOTE
Thehometelephonewiresareconnectedusingpivotconnectors, andtheRJ
11jackservesasatestaccesspoint.Inthisconfiguration,insertinga
telephonecableintotheRJ11jackwilldisconnecttheSBUONTfromhome
wiringandconnect th eSBUONTto theinsertedcableinstead.Thisallows
theho
meowner
orserv iceproviderto diagnoseSBUONTorhomewiring
relatedproblems.InsertinganRJ11jack(suchasatelephonecableor
telephonetestset)intotheconnector,willconnectthetelephonesetandalso
disconnectthesubscriberservicefromtheSBUONT.Hencefaultmaybe
isolatedtotheSBUONTorpremiseswiring.

Faults Indicated with LEDs
BegintroubleshootingattheSBUONTbycheckingtoseeifallLEDsareintheirnormalstate,
showninTable 9onpage 33.ThereareseparateLEDsforeachEthernetRJ45jackthatappear
ontheSBUcircuitboard.IftheLEDsareintheirnormalstate,referto“LEDsinNormalSt
ate”
below.IftheLEDsareinafaultstate,referto“LEDsinFaultState”onpage 36 .
LEDs in Normal State
IftheLEDsareinthenormalstatebutyouarestillhavingproblems,completethefollowing
troubleshootingsteps:
1. Ifthetroubleisofarandomorintermittentnature,checkforlooseorbrokenconnections
atthecommonmountingplatform.
2. Ifthetroubleissolid,removetheCustomerProvidedEquipment(CPE)wiringand
performthefol
l
owingtests:
•POTStestsdescribedin“TestforPOTSLineFaults”onpage 34.
•Ethernettestsdescribedin“ProvisionEthernetInterfaceatOLT”onpage 34.Verify
theOLTcanrunandpasstheloopbacktestsfortheEthernetport.
