Chimney
The chimney sits on top of the sample compartment and is designed to protect
the operator from the heat and UV radiation emitted by the flame. It is a double-
wall construction to reduce the surface temperature of the outside wall. It also
ensures that the exhaust system is effective in extracting vapors and fumes.
NOTE
The chimney should be approximately 100mm (4in) from the extraction hood of
your exhaust system. This distance should be increased when operating a nitrous-
oxide flame due to the higher flame height.
To fit the chimney:
1 Hold the chimney over the sample compartment, with the warning information
facing towards the front of the instrument.
2 Lower the chimney onto the sample compartment.
NOTE
A distinct click sound can be heard from the micro-switches within the instrument
when the flame shield is fitted correctly into place.
WARNING
Hot Surface
The chimney and flame shield may become very hot during operation and
cause severe burns if touched. Always wear protective gloves when handling
a hot chimney.
