Maintenance
Agilent 55B AA Spectrometer User’s Guide 97
1 Turn the flame and instrument off.
2 Remove the plastic capillary tubing from the nebulizer.
3 Remove and disassemble the nebulizer, check the components.
4 Place the nebulizer components in an ultrasonic cleaner containing 0.5% liquid
detergent solution for 5 to 10 minutes.
5 If the ultrasonic bath fails to clear the blockage, pass a burr-free nebulizer
cleaning wire (supplied with the nebulizer) carefully through the capillary, then
repeat the ultrasonic cleaning procedure.
6 Rinse the nebulizer components in distilled water, then allow to dry.
7 Check for a blockage at the junction between the plastic capillary tubing and
the capillary assembly. If a blockage is evident, either cut off the clogged
section of plastic capillary or fit a new piece. Ensure the plastic capillary tubing
fits tightly on the nebulizer capillary.
Cut off only the required amount of the plastic tubing that is required to remove
the blockage.
Reassemble the nebulizer block
WARNING
Fire Hazard, Explosion Hazard.
Incorrect assembly and/or fitting of the nebulizer can create explosion
hazards and fire hazards which can cause serious injury to personnel and
damage to equipment and property.
After cutting off the clogged section, it may be necessary to ‘flare’ the end of the
capillary tube before it can be fitted to the nebulizer. You can do this with a heated
needle.
