Impact bead
NOTE
Glass impact beads are most common and are suitable for most solvents. An
impact bead made from PTFE is available for use with Hydrofluoric Acid. The
instructions are valid for both types of impact bead.
The spherical end of the impact bead is positioned over the venturi throat of
nebulizer. The impact bead helps to separate the larger droplets from the sample
aerosol. Its position and adjustment have significant effect on the sensitivity and
noise performance of the instrument.
This section describes how to remove and replace the impact bead.

Check the impact bead for erosion or other damage. If the bead is damaged or
broken, fit a new one.
Remove the impact bead
1 Remove the nebulizer block from the sample compartment.
2 Isolate the nebulizer block by Remove the nebulizer block, the liquid trap, drain
tube and spray chamber -see Page 94.
3 Loosen the Impact bead locking screw approximately two turns.
