Setting up a USB flash drive for System Platform installation
Prerequisites
Downloading the System Platform and solution template software from PLDS on page 13
Verifying the ISO image on a linux machine on page 23.
If you want to use a USB flash drive to install System Platform, perform the following tasks
to set up the USB flash drive.
1. Open Command Line Interface on a 32bit or 64bit Linux workstation.
2. Type mount -o loop /path/to/vsp-root.iso /path/to/mountpoint to
mount the System Platform installer ISO image on the server or on your laptop
running Linux operating system, for example, Red Hat 5.3.
3. Type cp -r /path/to/mountpoint /path/to/tempdir to copy this
mounted directory to a temporary work directory.
4. Type cd /path/to/tempdir/usbkey change directory to the usbkey directory
in this temporary work directory.
5. Connect your USB flash drive to the USB port in the server or the laptop. Make a
note of the device (typically, /dev/sdb) and the mountpoint (for example, /mnt/
usbkey)
6. Type ./setup_usbkey.sh /dev/sdb /mnt/usbkey to run the
setup_usbkey.sh script, entering the device and usb key mountpoint as
arguments.
7. Disconnect the USB flash drive and use it to install System Platform.
Verifying the ISO image on a linux machine
Perform the following tasks to verify the ISO image in a DVD or in a USB flash drive.
1. Enter md5sum filename, for example, md5sum sp1.1.iso.
2. Compare the ISO image with the md5sum number on the System Platform installer
download page in the PLDS Web site.
