7.5 Setting the Exposure Time
If you are operating the camera in any one of the following ways, you must specify an exposure time
by setting the camera’s Exposure Time Abs parameter:
the frame start trigger mode is set to off
the frame start trigger mode is set to on and the trigger source is set to software
the frame start trigger mode is set to on, the trigger source is set to input line 1 or line 2, and
the exposure mode is set to timed.
The Exposure Time Abs parameter must be set within a certain range. The minimum and maximum
settings for each camera model are shown in Table 5.
The Exposure Time Abs parameter sets the exposure time in µs. The parameter can be set in
increments of 1 µs.
You can use the Basler pylon API to set the Exposure Time Abs parameter value from within your
application software. The following code snippet illustrates using the API to set the parameter value:
// Set the exposure time to 3000 µs
Camera.ExposureTimeAbs.SetValue( 3000 );
You can also use the Basler pylon Viewer application to easily set the parameter.
If you want to set exposure times that are longer than the maximum possible exposure time settings
indicated in Table 5 you can use the trigger width mode.
For more information about the pylon API and the pylon Viewer, see Section 3 on page 21.
This section (Section 7.5) describes how the exposure time can be adjusted
"manually", i.e., by setting the value of the exposure time parameter.
The camera also has an Exposure Auto function that can automatically adjust the
exposure time. Manual adjustment of the exposure time parameter will only
work correctly if the Exposure Auto function is disabled.
For more information about
auto functions in general, see Section 10.7 on page 171.
the Exposure Auto function in particular, see Section 10.7.6 on page 182.
Note that on cameras delivered from the factory, all auto functions will become
disabled whenever you power on or reset the camera.
