5. If rear beam does not line up squarely with rear curb angle, use 3” x 6” (76mm x
153mm) shims of suitable thickness to fully support the top rear and bottom rear of
the rear beam to weld areas.
Note: It is important these shims fill the space between the bottom
edge of the back beam and the face of the curb angle as well
as the top edge, behind each hinge lug. Assure that top of back
beam is
flush with top surface of the rear curb angle and finish
weld the back beam to the curb angle, see Group 14, Section 05, Page 1.
6. Remove sling brackets, chains, etc. from deck and remove and discard the shipping
bracket from the front of the dock leveler. Remove or add shims at each front corner
to position top surface of deck flush with top surface of side curb angles.
Note: Locate and place adequate and appropriate spacer shims to
completely fill the space between curb angle and frame at the
following locations under the front frame.
a) Under the maintenance strut base mounting bracket between
curb angle and frame.
b) Under the lip keeper brackets (one at each side of frame)
between curb angle and frame.
c) Under the center-point of the front frame between curb angle
and frame, see Group 14, Section 05, Page 1.
7. Partially operate the Dock Leveler by pulling firmly upward on the hold down release
ring (located in the left rear corner of the deck surface) and immediately releasing
same so that the deck raises approximately 4” – 12”.
Lower the deck back to its stored position by walking up the slope of the deck.
Ensure deck is fully down to stored position with tip of lip located inside the lip
keepers.
Adjust the height of all front shims as required to level the front sides of the deck
with the pit side curb angles.
Tack-weld the front shims together and to the Dock Leveler frame and the pit curb
angle.
