REWIND SPRING REPLACEMENT – cont’d
7) Remove the rewind cable clamp
that retains the cable at the float
spring. Pull the cable down
through the upper cable roller and
back through the lower roller to free
full length of cable.
8) The cable will be used to rotate the
rewind wheel during installation
and tensioning of the new rewind
spring. Maintaining slight tension
on the cable, rotate the rewind
wheel counterclockwise, viewed
from the release handle side, until
all but approximately 12” of cable is
wrapped on the cable drum. Stop
the wheel in the position that
places the rewind spring anchor pin
up, in an accessible position. Slide
one end of the new spring fully
onto the wheel-hub spring anchor
pin. See Figure 22.
9)
Do not proceed with the next step
without adequate personal
protection from spring and cable.
Eg: leather gloves, safety glasses,
etc.
10) Prepare a suitable locking device,
such as vice-grips, for clamping
onto the rewind wheel to prevent
rotation after the spring has been
tensioned and place close at hand.
See Figure 23.
