Mechanical Dock Leveler – M and FMC Group 08, Section 11, Page 3
Issue Date: 10/01/01, Rev. 0 (Part #038-550E)
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES - cont’d
9) Inspect all work performed to assure
retainers are in place, etc. and
lubricate the entire unit.
10) Pull the hold down release ring up
firmly and hold in released position
for a moment, to allow the main
springs to lift the deck slightly and
support the weight of the deck.
Figure 52
11) Ensure the maintenance strut is in the raised position. Remove the lip support
blocking and then the deck support blocking. Lower the maintenance strut.
12) Grasp the leading edge of the lip and pull the deck down to approximately 6" above
dock height. Lift the tip of the lip approximately 2" to release the lip lock and then
lower to its hanging position. See Figure 52.
The lip is heavy, handle with care and be alert to pinch points.
13) Walk the deck down to stored position. At this time, test operate the unit. The
main spring tension may have been increased to compensate for worn lifting arm
components or damaged lifting arm. If the deck is too hard to walk down and the lip
extends with excessive force, reduce the main spring tension, equal
counterclockwise turns on each of the four adjusting nuts, until satisfactory
operation is achieved.
14) If further adjustment is required, see the 'Trouble Shooting’ section of this manual,
Group 04, Section 01, Pages 1 and 2.
