to Pin Removal
Using a hand grinder or other suitable
tool, clean off the remains of the three
tack-welds from the deck plate and the
lip. Raise the lip fully with the hoisting
equipment and block securely to assure
the lip cannot lower.
Beginning with the center most
headboard spool, fully weld the bottom of
the spool to the headboard, working
outward until all headboard spools are
finish welded to the headboard.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Three or more
weld passes may be required on the top
and bottom of each headboard spool.
Observe the factory welded lip spools
and assure an equal amount of weld
deposit is applied to the headboard
spools. Pay particular attention to the
lower welds of the spools, because they
receive the greatest load.
With welding completed and the lip
securely blocked in the fully raised
position, pull the shock assembly forward
and attach the lip clevis to the lip lug with
the clevis pin and retainer,
See Figure 77.
Remove the slag protectors from the
hold down cable and cable roller.
Clean-up the entire working area and
paint the weld burn areas as required.
