Mechanical Dock Leveler – M and FMC Group 08, Section 14, Page 3
Issue Date: 10/01/01, Rev. 0 (Part #038-550E)
LIP CROWN MODIFICATION – cont’d
Decreasing Lip Crown – cont’d
Scribe a mark across the full face of the
lip that indicates the estimated
maximum amount of material that is to
be removed. Do Not Over-Grind.
Again, observe the lip plate and the
rearmost edge of the truck bed, and the
lip to headboard contact area.
Important: Contact between the lip
plate and the headboard/deck plate must
be made at the top edge of the lip plate.
Grind at an appropriate angle to assure
the contact area is as great as possible
and includes the top edge of the lip plate,
across the full width of the lip. Full
contact between the end of the lip plate
and the face of the deck plate/headboard
is most desirable. See Figure 87.
Grind material from the upper surface of
the lip plate as indicated in Figure 87,
across the full width of the lip and down
to the scribed mark. This will have
removed the estimated total material
slated for removal.
When the desired lip crown is achieved,
position the dock leveler onto a truck bed
and place sufficient weight on the deck to
force the lip fully against the headboard.
Inspect the mating area of lip and deck,
and lightly grind off any sharp edge that
may have been created by the change of
crown. With decrease of crown, this will
be the front edge of the deck plate and
will appear as a slight 'step' from the lip
up to the deck. Grind down until the top
of the deck plate is flush with the top of
the lip plate and the step is replaced by a
taper on the end of the deck plate.
See Figure 88.
