Mechanical Dock Leveler – M and FMC Group 08, Section 17, Page 5
Issue Date: 10/01/01, Rev. 0 (Part #038-550E)
LONGER LIP REQUIREMENT – cont’d
Move Dock Leveler Forward
Square the dock leveler in the pit
and shim under each side frame, at
the front corners of the pit, to locate
the top surface of the deck flush with
the top surface of the side curb
angles. These should be
tack-welded into place and must not
extend out of the pit area. A front
support beam will be located against
the front face of the front, lower, curb
angle, and must make contact with
it. See Figure 100.
Figure 100
If deck must be raised to adjust rear corner shims, assure the front shims are
welded sufficiently to maintain the frame in its present position. Remove the
temporary hold-down strap that was tack-welded between the lip and the front
frame. Release the hold down system in such a way as to allow the deck to raise
as slowly and gently as possible. With the deck in its fully raised position, raise the
lip until it locks in the extended position.
The lip is heavy, handle with care and be aware of pinch points.
Position the maintenance strut and place a safety stand or
blocking as previously described.
Enter the pit area and remove or add
shims under the back corners as
required. With the back beam at the
correct height and centered in the pit,
tack-weld the back beam to the filler
beam. Finish weld all under-frame
shims at this time, to assure they
remain in position. See Figure 101.
If the deck was not raised previously,
do so at this time. Assure the front
corner shims are welded sufficiently to
maintain the front of the frame in its
present position.
