I. INTRODUCTION
TheBrookeldDV-IIViscometerserieshasbeentheleadingindustrialviscometersinceitwasrst
introducedin1985.BrookeldhascontinuedtodevelopandimprovetheDV-IItoprovidethebest
valueinthemarketforbothqualitycontrolandresearchcustomers.TheBrookeldDV2TViscometer
continuesinthistraditionofinnovation,qualityandvalue.Theincorporationofafullcolorgraphical
touchscreendisplayhasallowedforanewandimproveduserinterfacewhichpreservesthesingle
speeddatacollectionmethodswhilemakingalloftheadvancedfeaturesoftheDV2Treadilyavailable.
TheBrookeldDV2TViscometermeasuresuidviscosityatgivenshearrates.Viscosityisameasure
ofauid’sresistancetoow.Youwillndadetaileddescriptionofthescienceofviscosityinthe
Brookeldpublication“More Solutions to Sticky Problems”,acopyofwhichwasincludedwithyour
DV2T.
ThismanualcoverstheDV2TViscometerandtheDV2TExtraViscometer.TheDV2TExtraisaspecial
packagethatincludesseveraloptionalfeaturestomaximizetheutilityoftheDV2T.TheDV2TExtra
includes:BallBearingSuspension(notincludedinLVversions),EZ-Lockspindleconnection,Model
QLabStand,andRheocalcTSoftware.ThesedifferencesaredetailedintheComponentssectionof
themanual.AllreferencestotheviscometerinthismanualwillbemadeasDV2T.Alloftheoptional
featuresoftheDV2TExtramaybeaddedindividuallytotheDV2TViscometer.
TheDV2Toffersexceptionalversatilityinmodesofcontrol,allowingchoiceoftraditionalstandalone
operationandautomaticoperationthroughprogramsdownloadedfromthePCorwithcompletecontrol
byPCusingBrookeldRheocalcTSoftware.

viscositydatathroughtheeasytousetouchscreen;justselectthespindleandspeedand

• TheBrookeldRheocalcTSoftwarewillperformallcontrolanddatacollectionfunctions
oftheDV2TfromthePCwhilealsoprovidingaplatformforadvanceddatacollectionand
analysis.
Inanyofthesemodesofcontrol,theDV2Twillprovidethebestinviscositymeasurementandcontrol.
Theprincipalof operation oftheDV2Tistodrivea spindle (which isimmersedinthe test uid)
throughacalibratedspring.Theviscousdragoftheuidagainstthespindleismeasuredbythespring
deection.Springdeectionismeasuredwitharotarytransducer.ThemeasurementrangeofaDV2T
(incentipoiseormilliPascal•seconds)isdeterminedbytherotationalspeedofthespindle,thesizeand
shapeofthespindle,thecontainerthespindleisrotatingin,andthefullscaletorqueofthecalibrated
spring.
